Buying Proper Supplies For Watercolor Marine Art Prints

By Jeffrey Kennedy

People, who are interested in art, may choose to work with different things. You might decide to do abstract paintings, or solely handle portraits of people. Other people will be fascinated with sea life. These may be either the built environment, or the organisms. One way they can choose to depict this, is by coming up with watercolor marine art prints.

Whether you are a beginner, or you have been painting for many years, you need to have the right tools for the trade. This will mean investing in good quality canvas, paints, brushes, and even getting the right clothes for the job. With the right tools, the right training, and an eye for detail, you should be able to come up with a good print.

You will need specific round and flat brushes for this job. They should be long and with soft bristles. This will allow them to properly spread the paint onto the canvas. These bristles can either be made from synthetic or natural fibers, and the one you choose will depend on your budget. You can slowly start buying one at a time, so that you eventually the right sizes and quality.

The paints used can come in tubes, or pans. There are also some which have already been mixed, and are packed, to prevent spillage. When they are in pans they may be cheaper, but will dry out faster than those in tubes. The specific colors you choose will completely depend on what you like. As a beginner, it is better to buy a set of few good quality paints, than one with various colors, which will not serve you for long.

Another thing you will need to get is the surface on which you will paint. You may choose to get watercolor paper as you start, then later progress to canvas. This paper should be thick, so that it does not buckle or start to fold, as the paint dries. These papers come as individual sheets, as a block, or in a pad. For convenience purposes, it will be better to buy a pad, or a block of them.

You will need to own a pallet. You can initially use a white dinner plate, or the plastic disposable plates. Later on, you can buy a proper pallet, which offers you space to mix up to twelve colors. If you want an even more advanced option, go for the metal covered pallets, which offer you more space to mix the mediums, and better grip.

To mix water colors, you need water. If you trust your tap water, use it for mixing, but if you are hesitant, you should use bottled water. There are additional mediums like Arabica and ox gall, which are used to make your print more transparent, or glossy. You should, however, make sure you master the basics, before suing these mediums.

There will be some other small knickknacks, which you need to buy. These include pencils, erasers, and an easel. You may choose to buy a wooden or plastic easel, or have one made for you. You need to use newspapers or old clothes, to prevent paint from staining your floors and the surrounding surfaces, as well as an apron, to protect your clothes.
